Former President and Chief Executive Officer New York Power Authority
Eugene W. Zeltmann is a strong advocate for expanded research, development and implementation of energy efficiency measures. He is a dedicated public servant and a champion of environmental and energy initiatives.
Mr. Zeltmann retired as President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Power Authority February, 2006. He had been appointed to the post of President and Chief Operating Officer by New York Governor Pataki in September 1997. He was appointed President and CEO in April 2002. As President and CEO, Mr. Zeltmann led the Power Authority’s call for the development and use of electric and hybrid-electric vehicles. There he also directed the daily operations of the nation’s largest state-owned electric utility, implementing energy efficiency and environmental awareness programs. He recently retired as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electric Power Research Institute, the utility’s leading research organization.
Prior to joining the New York Power Authority, Mr. Zeltmann held several key positions on the New York State Public Service Commission, was a senior manager for the General Electric Co., and served in a leadership role on the U.S. Industrial Sector Advisory Committee for Capital Goods where he was actively involved in U.S. trade issues. Mr. Zeltmann has also worked as a chemist for the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Schenectady, N.Y.
Mr. Zeltmann is chairman of the Board’s Corporate Governance & Strategic Planning Committee and serves on the System Planning and Audit & Finance committees.
He earned a PhD and Master of Arts in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Beloit College in Beloit, WI.
He serves as a director on the boards of the Schenectady Boys and Girls Club; his local PBS station, WMHT; Beloit College; the Adirondack Scenic Railroad; the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra, and the Albany Pro Musica.
Mr. Zeltmann joined the Board in January 2007.
