Regional Generation Outlet Study
The Regional Generator Outlet Study (RGOS) was initiated to ensure that Midwest ISO members and stakeholders can meet their renewable energy mandates and goals by developing a robust transmission plan to reliably and economically interconnect renewable resources across the Midwest. The objective of the study is to develop a set of regionally coordinated transmission projects that, at a minimum, meet both individual state renewable portfolio standards and load serving entity renewable goals for the states within the Midwest ISO region at the least cost to the consumer.
RGOS has been broken down into two sections: RGOS I and RGOS II. RGOS I seeks to determine the transmission necessary to interconnect and deliver wind to load for the western portion of our region. RGOS II builds upon the work that RGOS I started, extending the transmission plans developed for the western part of the region east into a cohesive plan for the entire Midwest ISO area. Both studies are ongoing simultaneously, and the major deliverables are listed in the timeline below.
